One of the most iconic kids’ TV shows was the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’. The show was iconic and the turtles themselves were iconic. Everyone in the 80s and the 90s watched the show. And the people who were kids back in those days still remember and love the superhero turtles. They were cute, they were fearless, they were smart, but they were also goofy. And something that they’ve known for is that they were named after Italian Renaissance artist.
But let’s just back up for a second, just in case if somebody doesn’t know about what we are talking about. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are four teenage anthropomorphic turtles, they live in the sewers of New York City, they fight crime, various mutated creatures, evil monsters, and alien invaders, they have an anthropomorphic rat that is their sensei, and they eat a lot of pizza. Their names are Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael and their sensei is Splinter.
Every turtle has its specific color and characteristic that they are known for. Leonardo wears a blue mask, Michelangelo wears an orange mask, Donatello wears a purple mask and Raphael wear a red mask.
There was first a comic book published by Mirage Studios, and then the show was created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Now there are many other cartoon series, movies, video games and toys featuring these iconic characters. And they are famous all over the world, even the kids nowadays know who the Ninja Turtles are. But they are still the most popular among the people who were kids during the 80s and 90s.
When it comes to toys and action figures that are based on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the first ones were made by Playmates Toys in 1988. That was a long time ago, but they are still popular.
Back in the days, the toys were very popular, and they’ve been selling really well and fast. The first toys were done with the influence from the comics, the turtle figures didn’t have pupils and they’ve had big muscles with large veins. They could move, every turtle had its signature weapon and a card with a whole biography of the character. There were also a lot of figurines of other characters from the series like Splinter and Shredder.
Later they’ve started to make accessories from the series, vehicles, and playsets. There were also figures that you can wind-up, and the limbs of the figures would rapidly move. The vehicles were the ones Donatello created. And taking into consideration that they’ve lived in the sewers there were also many accessories like trash cans, plungers, sewer lids, and even toilet seats.
And something that was adored by the fans was the role-playing toys. Kids could buy, okay the parents could buy their kids the role-playing kits. Where you would ked a ninja mask in a specific color and plastic weapons. And the most famous accessory that kids could get was the iconic Turtle Communicator, everyone loved that. You could also buy Raphael’s Spy goggles and Leonardo’s Sewer Force Sword. And you can still buy some of these things, and today they look even better.
And there was the radioactive slime called Retromutagen Ooze, the substance that turned and mutated the turtles into Ninja Turtles. Kids loved to play with that.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle were iconic characters and the toys were also iconic. Every kid from that period of time wanted to have a Ninja Turtle toy. Today there are many toys also and there are many options, many different vehicles, weapons and accessories from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
We believe that kids nowadays still love the famous turtles, but also the grown-ups that were kids in the 80s and 90s are still crazy about them, and would love to have some of the toys for themselves.
